Winter (Dec–Mar) — the ski basecamp season. Lutsen spinning, 150+ km of groomed Nordic trail, frozen waterfalls, the Dark Sky Festival, long aurora nights. The honest part: real cold, real snow, the gravel-road reality, and half the restaurant list on reduced days. That's the trade — and the fire is on your side of it.
Fall (mid-Sept–mid-Oct) — the shore's supermodel weeks. The Oberg loop, Gunflint color drives, extended gondola hours, and crowds on the classic stops (go early). Book far ahead.
Summer (Jun–Aug) — gondola and alpine slide, big hiking, harbor days, agates, patios. No AC at the lodge, but the lake keeps you cooler than the Cities do — the lake is the AC.
Spring (Apr–May) — the quiet, thawing, waterfall-at-full-torrent season; the falls are never bigger. Some mud, some places still on winter hours, and solitude as the amenity.

When is the best time of year to visit the North Shore?

Does Nordhus Lodge have air conditioning?
No, there is no air conditioning. The lake keeps the North Shore noticeably cooler than the Twin Cities in summer.
