Stilla is a small collection of private homes in places worth slowing down for — Nordhus Lodge on Minnesota's North Shore, and Eagles Nest near Acadia National Park. Two houses on the water, each looked after by the people who know it best.
Every home in the collection is held to the same standard and cared for by people who know it in every season — what the light does in October, which week the water is warmest, when the road needs plowing. That is what the Stilla name is for: a promise about how a house is kept, not a label on the door.
A home joins the collection because the place and the property both earned it, and because we can look after it properly. The next one is still being chosen. There is no hurry — a collection that grows carefully is the only kind worth having.
