Mount Desert Island is the heart of the Acadia region — a compact island holding most of the national park, the town of Bar Harbor, and the quieter villages of Northeast and Southwest Harbor. Everyone reaches it the same way: across the bridge from the mainland gateway at Trenton.
Basing at the gateway means you can dip onto the island for a park day or a Bar Harbor evening and retreat to somewhere calmer and closer to the water at night.
