Some guests arrive at Nordhus Lodge for the skiing, or the lake, or the quiet. What they don't expect is the company.
The land around the lodge belongs, first, to the animals that were here long before us. Deer move through the yard at dawn. A fox crosses the driveway. And now and then — caught on a doorbell camera, usually while everyone's asleep or out on the water — a black bear ambles across the deck like it pays the taxes.
We can't promise you'll see any of them. That's rather the point. Wildlife keeps its own schedule, and the not-knowing is half the pleasure — the reason you find yourself lingering at the window with your coffee, watching the tree line a little longer than you meant to.
What we can tell you is that this is genuinely wild country. The North Shore is theirs as much as ours, and a stay at Nordhus is a chance to share it for a while — to be somewhere real, where the days run on the light and the wildlife, not the clock.
